About the Map
The Tolkien style of illustration, with its hand-drawn mountain ridges, ancient forests, wind-scoured moorland and inked place names, was born from landscapes exactly like Northumberland. Wild, remote, layered with history and legend. The Cheviot Hills rise like something from the pages of Middle-earth, Kielder Forest stretches across the border country in a vast, dark sweep and Hadrian's Wall cuts across the county as a reminder that this was once the edge of the known world. Joshua Tabti's illustration captures all of it. Meticulous in detail, faithful to the landscape, and a genuinely beautiful work of art.
