Hidden within the forest, on the slopes of the Simonside Hills, lies an isolated outcrop of fell sandstone known as Little Church Rock.

Its name is in reference to a time when the stone was used as a gathering place for secret religious meetings which were held in defiance of the established church.

You can find out more about this remarkable place, as part of a longer walking guide in the Simonside Hills, in Issue 1 of NLAND which is now available to pre-order.
