GAIA at Hexham Abbey
GAIA at Hexham Abbey
Friday 3rd October – Sunday 16th November 2025 | Hexham Abbey
Hexham Abbey is set to transform this October and November with Luke Jerram’s internationally acclaimed GAIA, an illuminated six-metre Earth suspended from the Abbey’s bell tower. For six weeks, this extraordinary installation will be at the heart of a programme of concerts, talks, exhibitions, and family events designed to inspire, entertain, and provoke reflection.
Visitors can experience GAIA daily or attend specially curated events: candlelit tributes to Pink Floyd, Coldplay, and 80s classics; a spellbinding organ performance of Hans Zimmer’s Interstellar; and major classical works including Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man and Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending.
A gala dinner under GAIA will feature polar explorer Conrad Dickinson sharing tales of endurance and discovery, while families and schools can enjoy cosmic explorations, indigenous teachings, stargazing, and hands-on science sessions.
Art and creativity feature prominently with Wil Cheung’s Gaia Photography Exhibition, the community project Cloth of Hopes and Dreams, and Now & Forever, exploring humanity’s relationship with nature alongside Northumberland National Park. For quiet contemplation, yoga, meditation, and reflective worship beneath the glowing Earth offer a rare moment of stillness.
Dates & Tickets: GAIA runs daily from 3rd October to 16th November 2025. Entry: £4 adults | £1 children. Tickets for GAIA and all accompanying events, including the gala dinner, are available at www.hexhamabbey.org.uk/gaia.
