Cragside House

In 1878 Cragside was the first house in the world to be powered by hydroelectricity. The owner, Sir William Armstrong, harnessed the power of water from a nearby lake to light up the house with electric lights and powering various household appliances. This pioneering home is one of the most remarkable Victorian mansions in the whole of Britain.
